Why Data Matters (More Than Ever)

Data is not content.It is evidence.

Photos, notes, timestamps, and checklists may look like casual content, but together they can form evidence—a trail that shows what happened, when, and how. Evidence enables reuse, auditing, and trust.

If it can be checked, it can be trusted. If it can be trusted, it can be reused.

Four qualities that make data useful

1. Provenance — source, creator, and tools.
2. Context — time, place, conditions, intent.
3. Structure — consistent fields, units, and names.
4. Permission — clear terms for reuse.

From daily work to reliable datasets

1. Capture key facts right after the work.
2. Organize with consistent keys and ISO timestamps.
3. Link photos/videos to each record; keep originals.
4. Annotate conditions, anomalies, decisions.
5. Publish or archive with a simple license line.
